Holiday Safety Tuesday, 01 December 2020 Screen_Shot_2020-12-01_at_4.23.09_PM.png   Happy December and Happy Holidays! As we enter December and holiday season has begun, it is important to amp up our personal safety. In many areas, December often wins highest crime rate of the year due to the holidays. Let’s take a look at some things we can do to keep December a month of joyous celebrations!    Lock Your Car Doors and Keep Valuables Hidden While this tip may seem obvious, many forget this simple task. Far too many break ins occur during this time of  the year, and the simplest way to avoid this is to mitigate temptation. If you are holiday gift shopping, remember to store any valuables out of the public eye in addition to always ensuring your vehicle is locked. Due to the common misconception that vehicle break ins happen more frequently at night, vehicles are often left unlocked during the day, however in reality vehicle breaks ins happen more often throughout the day.  Make It Look Like You Are Home If you plan to travel this holiday season, ensure your home does not look vacant. If you will be out of town, arrange to have a friend or family member collect your mail and packages throughout the duration of your travels. Additionally, leave lights on throughout your house so your home continues to look “lived in” even while you are gone. If you frequently use social media, avoid posting that you are away from home until after you have returned. Decoration Safety While everyone loves a fully decorated home, safety is always most important. Be sure to read safety manuals on any decorations you may be using and ensure all lights and decorations are in good condition. If you plan on setting up a live Christmas tree, make sure to keep it watered and do not leave decorative lights on for too long to avoid fire hazards.    We wish everyone the happiest of holidays and hope these tips help everyone remain safe and sound throughout this holiday season!  Last modified Tuesday, 01 December 2020 Previous item Next item
