How to Apply for a Security Officer Position Tuesday, 02 April 2019 How to Apply for a Security Officer Job   Applying for a security officer position is just like any other interview process. You will need to make an impression and successfully complete one or multiple interviews for a company. Our Hiring Committee at Guardian Protection Force Inc., has compiled a list of tips and tricks they believe will help any applicant make a great first impression when applying for a security guard position.   Even though we are writing this based on the security industry, this may also be applied to other positions outside of the industry.     As the applicant, you should realize that the company representative interviewing you may have done multiple interviews already that day or even throughout that week. This is why our number one tip is make a great first impression! As this may be true for many other things, we believe standing out and being memorable may be that special something that gets you the position in the end.     Tips & Tricks Always dress to impress, even if you are simply walking in to grab an application or to inquire about employment opportunities. It really does leave a positive impression. Arrive no more than 15-30 minutes early. Anything over 30 minutes early does show that you are eager and prepared; However, you do not want to make the company representative fill rushed to complete your interview. On the other hand, anything less than 15 minutes early is pushing it. We will need to make copies of your resume, licenses, certificates, etc., so make sure to arrive around 15 minutes early. Make sure to have extra copies of your resume on hand. Also, have a list of references that includes three professional references. You may add personally references as well, but make sure to have at least three solid professional references. We do actually call your references! Do some research on the company that you are applying for. We will always ask if you have any further questions, a good way to respond to that would be to ask unique questions about the company. It is ALWAYS nice to hear that you have taken the steps on your own, to know our company.  As nerve wracking as interviews may be, just be yourself. We would rather you answer questions honestly, then making up questions you think we want to hear. We can’t tell you how many times we hear the same generic answers over and over. Tell us about YOUR thoughts on the question and why YOU want the job! Ensure you make eye contact during the interview, as well as pay attention to your body language. A slouch or crossed arms will give off the feeling that you are uninterested. Always thank all company representatives for their time. Also, be patient if you are told it will take a certain turnaround period for us to get back to you. While we appreciate enthusiasm and persistence with phone calls and emails, this can be too much and possible create the opposite effect. Last, but certainly not least: practice a proper handshake! We cannot stress how important this is for your interview. Limp handshakes are no pleasant and too firm of a handshake is too much. We suggest to practice getting it “just right”. This is also a great life tip.
