In the DOJO – Women’s Self-Defense Workshop
Event Description
Schedule
The second half shifts into practical physical self-defense with guided coaching: legal concepts and constraints, distance and positioning, creating verbal and physical boundaries, and sample techniques based on participants’ real concerns. We also discuss weapons as force multipliers – tools that can “add authority” to what you do with your body – and close with comments, questions, and observations.
9:00 AM - 11:00 AM | Self-Protection (Prevent, Avoid, Escape)
Elements we will touch on include:
- Mindset and "How you present yourself in the world"
- Situational awareness and perception of danger
- Trusting intuition (recommended resource: The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker). Participants are encouraged to share personal experiences of times something felt "off" and that feeling was correct
- Color, planning, time and distance. Use of Jeff Cooper’s color code for situational awareness and mental readiness for threats
11:00 AM - 1:00 PM | Physical Self-Defense
- Legal concepts and constraints
- Use of distance, positioning, and creation of boundaries (verbal as well as physical)
- Actual physical self-defense techniques for "sample" scenarios based on participants’ actual threat concerns
- Use of weapons as "force multipliers" (they "add authority" to what you do with your body)
- Closing: Comments, Questions, and Observations from participants
About the Instructors
Dale Seago
Director of Intelligence, Guardian Protection Force
Dale Seago has been with Guardian Protection Force for nearly nine years in a variety of roles and is currently its Director of Intelligence. He also is a Dai Shihan or “senior master instructor” in the martial arts of the Bujinkan or “Divine Warrior House” organization based in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. He has trained in the Bujinkan for over 40 years and still trains in Japan with senior instructors there.
He became one of the first 20 Americans to be certified as a Bujinkan instructor in 1989 and currently heads the Bujinkan Yojimbo Dojo (“Yojimbo” 用心棒 is an old Japanese word for a bodyguard or protector), which trains weekly in GPF’s headquarters in Rancho Cordova, California.
A former military intelligence officer and civilian executive protection agent, Dale also helps teach GPF’s executive protection agent training courses. In his personal “down time” Dale loves to be out in nature when possible, and to hang out with his girlfriend and his three cats.
